Advanced Lesson: Carrusel (On2)

Note: This is a sample lesson to give you a taste of Patrick and Scarlet’s teaching methodology. You can sign-up for the full salsa program here.

This pattern is here to show you what you can aspire to achieve as a student of Patrick and Scarlet’s on Dance Dojo.

Carrusel, or Carousel in English, is a perfect example of how you can add layers of complexity onto basic moves to make your patterns more advanced. You’ll use variations of the following skills in this pattern:

  • Double Turn
  • Left Turn
  • Inside Turn
  • Walk Around
  • Hesitation

Normally, as a Dance Dojo member, you’d learn all those individual skills first before diving in. But, since you’re not getting the whole cake here, do your best and see what you can do!

Leads, make sure you check out the tips video to help you through some of the trickier parts of leading this combo. Follows, be patient with your partner, hold your posture and keep your timing!

Demo

Get excited. With some solid instruction, determination and hard work, soon this will be you!

Partner Work (Section 1)

To make this pattern more digestible we’ve broken it into two sections. Once you’ve gone through both sections, you’ll find a video that digs deeper into the follow’s part and another with tips for the leads. It’s all about getting moving first, then digging deeper into detail and addressing common mistakes with simple solutions.

Partner Work (Section 2)

Be aware of your movements, keep your time and relax your arms. You’re doing great – keep up the good work!

Details for Follows (Section 1 and 2)

Now that you’ve gone through the pattern a couple times, let’s dig deeper into the follow’s part.

Tips for leads

Patrick and Scarlet have seen where their students struggle a millions times. Take a few minutes to absorb these tips and avoid the common pitfalls most people go through. Practice up, good luck!

What’d You Think?

That’s a wrap for the advanced sample lesson. We love showing students how to add layers of complexity and transitions onto basic moves to spice them up.

If you’re hungry to dive into more patterns like this or to go back to basics and strengthen your fundamentals, we’d love to work with you. Check out our membership options and let’s get to it!
