Beginner Lesson: Right Turn (On1)

Note: This is a sample lesson to give you a taste of Patrick and Scarlet’s teaching methodology. You can sign-up for the full salsa program here.

Welcome to the Right Turn. It’s the first turn you typically learn in salsa and it’s a fundamental skill you’ll use over and over gain. It also sets you up to eventually learn multiple turns.

In this lesson we’ll teach you one of five right turn variations. And practice up because we’ll be using it in the pattern you’ll be learning next!

This demo shows you five handhold variations for the Right Turn (and a Necklace), but we’re only going to teach you the second one for now. If you’re hungry for the rest, become a member here.

Follow’s Footwork

Heads-up! Leads, although Scarlet is talking to the follow’s here, it’s worth learning the footwork as you’ll be using it in a pattern later. The footwork is the same for both leads and follows. If it’s too much for you to digest, don’t sweat it!

Partner Work (Turn 2 of 5)

Alright, let’s add a lead onto that footwork! As a reminder, we’re only going to show you one of five handhold variations here (leads left hand to the follow’s right). You’ll be using this one in the pattern we teach you later.

There’s always a few places where most people tend to struggle. That’s why we provide tips in each lesson to help you get unstuck, navigate the tricky parts, and have more success!

Note: this video shows some handhold variations you haven’t learned yet, but it helps drive home the points.
