Intermediate Lesson 1: The Cape (On1)

Note: This is a sample lesson to give you a taste of Patrick and Scarlet’s teaching methodology. You can sign-up for the full salsa program here.

The Cape is fun move where the follows get an immediate Inside Turn before continuing forward into a New York Walk (outside pivot). We haven’t seen this move taught in classes often, so we wanted to start you off with a little something special.

To get started, watch this demo to get a feel for what you’ll be learning and then progress through the footwork and partner work lessons to get all the details.

Follow’s Footwork

Getting a feel for your feet first gives you a feel for the move and timing before diving in with your partner. The more comfortable you are doing the footwork solo, the more successful you’ll be when you add a partner into the mix!

Now that the follow has her feet in order, let’s add the lead. Timing, posture and frame are everything for this move. When you get it right it should be a nice graceful flow. Enjoy!
