Intermediate Lesson 2: Free Spin (On2)

Note: This is a sample lesson to give you a taste of Patrick and Scarlet’s teaching methodology. You can sign-up for the full salsa program here.

You’ve just learned the Arm Spiral and now it’s time to get into the Free Spin. The Free Spin is a variation of the Inside Turn (which we normally teach first) that’s a little more hands off.

And coming up next, Patrick and Scarlet will teach you a pattern we call Double Lock Walk that uses both the Free Spin and the Arm Spiral.

Let’s begin!

La Musica: Gilberto Santa Rosa – Titere

Take a peek at the Free Spin and store a mental recording of what you’re trying to accomplish.

Lead’s Part

Learn the nuances of how this turn differs from the Inside Turn. You don’t have to crank on her arm to make her turn leads. Be gentle and let your frame and body orientation do the work!

Follow’s Part

Keep your timing, work your legs and always step forward follows. This turn is a great opportunity to work on perfecting your basic techniques. The better your technique is on this simple turn, the better it will be the next time your lead cranks up the difficulty and tries some fancy arm variations.

Practice Time

Most lessons come with a practice video. Follow along when Patrick and Scarlet start their basic and get some good repetition in. Practice videos were actually a suggestion from some of our members. Like you, we love feedback and are always improving!
